Adoration

There is a light that shines within me
there is a hope that burns inside me
deep within my soul, my very existence
there is a being waiting to be freed

a child who knows no fear, pain, or rejection
there is an emotion all encompassing
of excitement, joyfullness, gladness, and love

with the creative potential of laughter
and the undeniable power of an infants joy live inside me
unmeasurable are my limits for i call you Father
unimaginable my potential for You have called me son

there is someone inside of me waiting to be unleashed
whom You embraced
whom i long to be

there is an all-consuming fire
a light that permeates from my very being
You have unlocked me God
and the doors You opened no man can shut

I will praise You for all my days for You are good
You have released me God with Your love
You are everything
~ Adoration by Ian McIntosh

I came across this song today as I was browsing around the iTunes store to make a new homework playlist, which is always the perfect distraction from homework :). Every once in a while I find a song that evokes a certain feeling inside of me. As I listened to this song, where the words weren't even being sung but they were just being spoken, there was a feeling, an emotion that was awakened in me. I was pleasantly surprised by the beauty of those words and the power behind them.

I've been doing a lot of thinking lately about the beauty of music. I have been taking ASL this semester and have been learning a lot about deaf people and the deaf culture, which has caused me to be very thankful for something that I have always taken for granted, the ability to hear. Music is probably one of the things that I enjoy most in life. Although I have hardly been gifted in the area of music, I greatly appreciate it for it's beauty expressed in God's gifting of others. I've thought about what it would be like not to have ever heard music or to have heard and then lost that and how that would make me feel. To never be able to hear music again, or to never have heard it at all, would make me very sad.

When I take a step back and think about what I just wrote, about music and hearing, I feel I'm making a bigger deal about something that seems so small because the ability to hear is so normal to me and many people, but I didn't realize until recently that there is a culture in which hearing is not something normal. This has caused me to be extremely thankful that I was created the way that I am, and given the gifts that I have.

God has been showing me beauty in everything lately, and through that His love for me. If you know me well, you know that I see it most in nature. Recently though, I've seen it in brokenness. I've seen it in hope. I've seen it in music. I've even seen it in language and words that are not spoken with lips, but with hands... and all I can say so summarize my gratitude is thank you Father.
